Global Tech Hubs – Wales

London is one of the world’s best known business powerhouses, and even with an impending Brexit, this is unlikely to change. But there are other parts of the United Kingdom that are also becoming established as IT hubs. Often overlooked, people are always surprised when Wales is mentioned as an emerging region. While relatively small, with just over 3 million inhabitants, it bears watching as an up and coming global tech hub, in part thanks to organisations like The Alacrity Foundation, UK.

Led by Simon Gibson OBE, the Alacrity program is Europe’s only Charitable incubator.  Different to all other incubator experiences, the program provides an allowance to entrepreneurs to help support them while they develop the business skills required to succeed. The Foundation is able to support this strategy via the support of industry partners, such as Wesley Clover, and by challenging program participants to identifying & solve current marketplace business issues.

Alacrity has a personal connection with Wales: our co-founder Sir Terry Matthews was born and raised in Newport, Wales. A tech leader on a global scale who encourages others to pursue careers in ever-evolving technology sectors, Newport-based Alacrity is but one facet of his continued involvement in Welsh economic development.
